Since 2018, Christian Bogdal has been head of the Chemical Analytics Laboratory at the Zurich Forensic Science Institute.

He was a senior scientist in chemical risk assessment and environmental chemistry in the Safety and Environmental Technology Group at ETH Zurich from 2009 until 2018. 

In 2018, he earned an executive master of business administration (EMBA) degree in general management at the University of St.Gallen.

In 2014, he was visiting researcher at Stockholm University.

He earned his doctoral degree in chemistry from ETH Zurich in 2008. In his doctoral thesis, he combined trace analysis with multimedia modeling to investigate the environmental fate of persistent organic pollutants. He performed his thesis at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA).

He received his master degree in environmental sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in 2005. He did his master thesis at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
